What is Diesel Exhaust Fluid or DEF?

DEF or Diesel Exhaust Fluid is an ammonia-based liquid that is injected into the exhaust systems particulate filter as a catalyst to create a chemical reaction that breaks down the Nitrogen Oxide or NOx into nitrogen, water, and small amounts of CO2.  DEF - Diesel Exhaust Fluid - Urea Fluid is a non-toxic solution of 67.5% water and 32.5% automotive grade urea.
